“The interesting thing about my field is the interface between business valuation and damages claims. How would a business have developed if something had or had not happened? This kind of problem is encountered with dispossession when a piece of derelict land on which a business had planned to extend is dispossessed. It is not only a question of the price of the land but of also of recompensing the missed profits which would have resulted from this business expansion. In such a situation we go further than calculation on the basis of historical figures.
We examine for example the extent to which this expansion would have been a logical step in a management sense, taking into account the market situation, permits, the size of the investment, the business risk and the timespan in view. In addition we judge the profitability of potential investment possibilities. These elements also play an important part when we advise entrepreneurs on take-overs, making strategic business decisions and obtaining financing.
Our strength lies in the fact that we have a good picture of how entrepreneurs, government, lawyers, judges and banks regard financial affairs. That can vary. Good communication between these parties is essential. We speak the language of all parties. Our added value lies in this communication process.”
